June 5 is the World Environment Day 2024 and June 4-6 is proposed by the the Greek Ministry of Education for the organization of activities that promote environmental awareness.

In this context, this year, the summer excursion for 4,5, and 6 classes of our school took place on Tuesday, June 4th in the Myli Gorge, a jewel for our island, while HELMEPA's actions will follow on Thursday, June 6th on the beach.

We started our course in the area of Ano Myli. After passing the cave church of Agios Ioannis, we passed the Ano Myli with the restored old miller houses, we went down to the church of the Holy Five Virgins where we drank water from the spring, we passed the Kato Myli deserted village and finished in the village Xiro Chorio. Despite the high temperatures we enjoyed the coolness in the river, drank water from the spring, saw the old water mills, and walked ancient paths next to waterfalls and ponds with trout and crabs.

After the hike, we spent a wonderful time and lunch in Somatas tavern, dancing to traditional Cretan music.

We thank the hiking club ΦΥΣΗ (fysi.gr), which covered part of the cost of the excursion and accompanied us, creating a feeling of security throughout the course. We want to warmly thank the club and especially the president Giorgos Zacharakis, the secretary Stelios Kontakis and the member Chrysoula Sfakianaki for accompanying us!
