As part of the European eTwinning project entitled “In the footsteps of heritage”, the students of the E1 class followed in the footsteps of one of the greatest Greek writers, Nikos Kazantzakis.
Guided by curiosity and love for their homeland, the children visited the Nikos Kazantzakis Museum in Myrtia and his tomb in Heraklion, on a deeply moving and inspiring journey. There, among personal belongings, manuscripts and photographs, they came into contact with the life, work and thought of the great Cretan, who spoke passionately about Man, Life, God and Freedom.
On his simple tomb, high on the Venetian Walls, his words are indelibly etched in memory: “I hope for nothing. I fear nothing. I am free.” A landmark phrase, which the children tried to understand and feel with their hearts, giving their own meaning to the great questions posed by literature and life.
Through this experiential approach, the children proudly presented the life and work of Kazantzakis, honoring our cultural heritage not only with words, but also with soul. Because education, as he himself would say, is not just knowledge — it is a flame, it is a passion, it is a path.
