During the 2023-2024 school year, our school became a member of the Network of European Blue Schools. A European Blue School brings the ocean into the classroom. It’s a school, which through project-based learning, engages students with marine- and maritime-related topics to create awareness and a feeling of responsibility for our ocean. In 2023-24 the school participates in the educational project Sea is Life (η θάλασσα είναι ζωή) to inform and raise awareness among children aged 6-12 about the marine environment and the need to protect it. Through various activities, students learn about biodiversity, the natural processes of the seas, and the risks they face from human activity, while at the same time, they cultivate their environmental awareness and their love for the marine environment.
With the central slogan "People and marine life, allies for the planet earth", the volunteer students of the Junior Helmepa program cleaned a large part of Karteros beach to send their special message for clean seas and coasts.
At the same time, they recorded all the garbage collected, with plastic being the "king" of their findings.
A big thumbs up to our students because they are aware of environmental issues and they show it in practice.
