During the 2023-2024 school year, our school became a member of the Network of European Blue Schools. A European Blue School brings the ocean into the classroom. It’s a school, which through project-based learning, engages students with marine- and maritime-related topics to create awareness and a feeling of responsibility for our ocean. In 2023-24 the school participates in the educational project Sea is Life (η θάλασσα είναι ζωή) to inform and raise awareness among children aged 6-12 about the marine environment and the need to protect it. Through various activities, students learn about biodiversity, the natural processes of the seas, and the risks they face from human activity, while at the same time, they cultivate their environmental awareness and their love for the marine environment.
Our school supports the action "Separate Collection of bio-waste in the neighborhoods of our City" of the municipality of Heraklion, during which a network of brown bins will be developed where organic waste is placed.
The households of our school that will take part in the action have received FREE 10L household bins to support the program.
