Today, October 31, 2023, the students of E1, B2 and ΣΤ3 were introduced to the American custom of pumpkin carving to make the well-known Jack o'lantern that decorates the entrances on All Saints' Eve during the Anglo-Saxon calendar, i.e. today.
The now familiar "Halloween" is a corruption of the phrase "All Hallow's even", and has its roots in a similar ancient Celtic custom, Samhain, where the pepple, in addition to carving the pumpkin, wore costumes to scare and pull away the evil spirits. The custom then spread to the new era and coincided with the day of the Dead, and later returned to Europe enriched with new traditions.
The custom was enriched with many desserts from apple, pumpkin and, of course, chocolate!
Enjoy the day!
