The 6th grade class visited the Foundation for Research and Technology on Monday, March 10, 2025, as part of the celebration of International Women's Day. The United Nations officially recognized International Women's Day in 1977, but the first milestone was set as early as 1848. It is a day of honor and remembrance for the social, political, and cultural achievements of women and their timeless struggles for equality, social justice, and freedom.
The Region of Crete, the Independent Equality Office and the Regional Gender Equality Committee of Crete, headed by the Deputy Regional Governor for Culture and Equality Georgia Milaki, implemented a wonderful action for our students as part of the "Equality4Crete - Do the right thing" campaign. In collaboration with the Equality and Anti-Discrimination Committee of the Foundation for Technology and Research, an action was carried out to eliminate gender stereotypes and discrimination, to empower and inform students from the 47th Primary School of Heraklion.
The children and teachers of our school were welcomed by the Director of the Institute of Informatics, Professor Dimitris Plexousakis. Ms. Meltini Fragioudaki of from saferInternet4Kids then gave them a presentation on the dangers of the internet, while a demonstration of the robotic dog was followed by a tour of the laboratory areas of the Institute of Informatics's AMI Programe.
