During the 2023-2024 school year, our school became a member of the Network of European Blue Schools. A European Blue School brings the ocean into the classroom. It’s a school, which through project-based learning, engages students with marine- and maritime-related topics to create awareness and a feeling of responsibility for our ocean. In 2023-24 the school participates in the educational project Sea is Life (η θάλασσα είναι ζωή) to inform and raise awareness among children aged 6-12 about the marine environment and the need to protect it. Through various activities, students learn about biodiversity, the natural processes of the seas, and the risks they face from human activity, while at the same time, they cultivate their environmental awareness and their love for the marine environment.
On Thursday, December 14, the E2 and E3 classes visited the Environmental Education Center (ΚΠΕ) in Archanes for the "Biodiversity in our area" program.
Anna Martimianaki and Elena Fanioudaki from ΚΠΕ welcomed us and spoke to us about the biodiversity of Crete in general, but also of the Youchtasregion in particular. Then we walked along an ancient path to the Necropolis on the Fourni hill and with a view of the Jiouktas mount we played orienteering games, enjoying nature and nice weather.
