During this year, the students of the 4th grade are working on an environmental program in collaboration with "Helmepa Jr". The main objective of this year's program, entitled "Sea is life", is to strengthen the knowledge of the educational community about the oceans, to encourage them to take an active role at an individual and collective level, to achieve Goal 14: "Life under the surface of the sea' for sustainable development and to highlight the interaction between man and the sea.

Guided by a variety of creative activities, visual creations, and experiments, children discover the underwater world and take action to strengthen the sustainable management of oceans and coasts for the benefit of humanity.

Initially, with the help of a presentation by Mr. Dimitrios Kazas, responsible for the HELMEPA Jr, and games, we talked and learned about marine ecosystems. We then constructed with recyclable materials a marine ecosystem and the organisms that live in it. We became journalists and interviewed marine organizations.

What is marine biodiversity? Why is it important? We played with the "Food Chain", discovered the relationships between the species that make up a food chain, and helped the "Penguin Family Meeting". How difficult it is for parents and baby penguins to find their families in their large and noisy colonies?

We learned about the conditions prevailing at different sea depths and how each organism adapts. We made a board game of knowledge which we played in groups.

Through experiments and visual creations, we understood the water cycle and learned how ocean currents work.

We learned the nautical terminology, split into groups, made our crossword with nautical words, and solved it. What will the ships of the future be like? No fumes, no smoke. Guided by our imagination, we painted them.
