The 6th-grade students of class ΣΤ3 in the Natural Sciences course, in the Electromagnetism section, created their own Magnetic Sculptures with simple materials (magnets, wood, nails, etc.)!
The "Magnetic Sculptures" are compositions with magnets and various metal objects made of magnetic materials. Beyond the obvious, that is, children activate their imagination and creative thinking, as they combine the various metal objects and magnets to make their compositions, they create a relationship between them and the materials, to create a meaning inside them. Each work reveals this relationship and is unique. At the same time, they connect the new knowledge with a creative and enjoyable process.
The children approach the theme of "magnetism of 6th-grade physics" through three-dimensional collages, which refer to the artistic practice of Assemblage, which was considered the evolution of collage in the third dimension. Children learn through the theory of magnetic fields that an object made of ferromagnetic material becomes a magnet when it comes into contact with a magnet because its magnetic fields are oriented/aligned.
At the same time, the students met artists who created works with magnets, mainly the Greek sculptor Takis, who based the creation of his magnetic sculptures on magnetic and electromagnetic fields, revealing their invisible energy.
